Pumps, homogenisers and centrifuges are built with fluid shaft sealing (pump seal water). This water prolongs the life of the rotating carbon rings (carbon/silicon) by “greasing” and cooling the rings.
If the pump seal water is reused in a closed pipe system, it must be disinfected to avoid bacteria and fungi. This ensures reuse of the pump seal water for longer periods, and finished products will not be contaminated in the event of a leakage of seal water into the unit.
The BacTerminator® system can improve the disinfection of the pump seal water compared to the commonly used pasteurisation.
